Laboratory of Thermal-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA)

Sample preparation

It is possible to conduct thermal analysis of an organic and/or inorganic sample in both solid and liquid phases.

A sample must be delivered in a suitable form that enables it to be placed in the crucible of the chosen type of analyser. Solid phase samples can be accepted in the form of powder, small pieces, or small balls (diameter of 3–6 mm), according to the equipment and module used.

Special modules enable the sample to be suspended instead of using the crucible. In such cases, it is necessary pre-agree requirements with laboratory staff.

Generally, samples within the range 1–100 mg can be accepted for most types of our equipment. However, we advise you to contact us to discuss your precise measurement requirements in advance.

In most cases, the laboratory does not make modifications to samples.

Required information for sample acceptance:

  • composition
  • safety risk: toxicity, radioactivity, …
  • sample storage requirements: temperature, light, …
  • payment
  • client contact

The above-mentioned information must be provided by completion of the following form: Analysis Requirements and Payment Form (pdf)

Our general policy is to dispose of all samples two weeks after completion of analysis:

  • the client is billable for the disposal of toxic samples

where sample return is a requirement, it should be specified on the form above
